The Popularity of Josie Cotton?

I am going to guess almost no one knows who this is. I was kinda paying attention in the 80's. Never heard anything she did until I bought some kind of compilation. He Could Be The One was on it. Catchy tune. Anyway, First Wave plays Johhny Are You Queer which is puzzling for a couple reasons.

Was she played on the radio? Where was she popular? If there are responses, which I doubt there will be, where did you hear her?

Clearly not on the radio.

It was a minor MTV thing.

both those songs were in the movie "valley girl" in 1983.

I very, very vaguely recall reading about this in HS -- perhaps a few years after it was released. I definitely never heard it played on the radio.
