Macca was an on time plunker. Very basic.
You can hear him on some of his album, Ram.

Actually, Denny Seiwell (before going on to form Wings with Macca) played most/all of the drums on Ram.
McCartney played all the drums on his solo eponymous album, McCartney.
(Macca also played drums on some Beatles records, notably Back in the U.S.S.R. and the Ballad of John and Yoko.)

had one of most recognizable drumming
This was partly due to him being a lefty playing a righty kit but he had serious timing

Ringo was stoned out of his mind. That was perfection.
You'll notice he never dared get behind the kit (unless it was double drummers and Elton John was on piano) when he was shamelessly promoting Marc Bolan (T Rex).

I might add a much maligned bass player wasn't so shabby either.

I can’t put it any better than others. I always found his drumming just a bit off-probably due to what others have said-a lefty playing a right handed drum kit and forcing himself to keep time-but it was right for the band and gave them part of their sound.
