In reference to the dubstep, though, this was groups of bros only. There were ZERO chicks in attendance other than a couple random raver girls scattered throughout the building.

I know nothing about particular shows, I was just commenting on an observation I've made. It seems like my FB blows up about some EDM show in either NOLA or BR once a month with just hordes of Sorority girls, and I've always sort of assumed that's why most of the Fraternity guys got into it. Could be way off base.

I do know that every house is having a DJ instead of a band at it seems like about half of their house parties these days because they draw the girls, and because they are cheap as all hell.

oh i bet.

lets compare

1) Band.
takes awhile to setup
gonna play cover songs that youve heard 500x
if they play their own songs, no one will know them
probably relatively expensive

2)dj
setup is minimal
can play anything the people want
pretty cheap. hell plenty of djs will play for free or practically nothing

ill go with option 2

pretty cheap. hell plenty of djs will play for free or practically nothing - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

That being said - I'd rather a DJ for a party. You just have to know your DJ and know your crowd... or it's the cheapest disaster you'll ever be the cause of.

I used to go to Raves, though my last one was Kaffeine Halloween 2002, so damn twelve years. I feel old now.

I think the last actual "rave" I went to was in '92. Who feels old now?

oh i agree. being around the scene for so long it would be an easy task for me to get someone good to play for relatively cheap. hell most of the guys from nola and br that i would ask would play for beer(whatever else) and just the money required to get them there. not really a "job" for them.

The growth of dubstep has to be the most out of any genre in any type of music ever.

it has grown tremendously, but every genre that is bigger than dub step (rock, country, rap) has grown more than dub step. All music started out in the backrooms of clubs or parks or where ever to hardly any fan fare.

Im talking about how "quick" it grew. It seems like it went from the backrooms of an underground club to blasted on commercials world wide overnight
