I got it yesterday and after the first song, I thought, wow..this one is going to be good. Then I felt it was a little downhill from there. I give it a 5 out of 10.

Yeah, I listened to some leaked tracks. Ian just doesn't have the voice he use to. I wish they would actually lower his voice level to the music. It' like his ego wants his voice to be overpowering or the key in the songs but it just isn;t working. I guess the years of wailing like a banshee has taken it's toll. But yet I still throw post Sonic Temple albums in there to listen to.

Agree, but I didn't want to dis The Cult too much with my review cause I am such a huge fan. The riffs and the writing were there, I just felt the vocals were so lagging it was distracting. Also, I felt they could speed up the tempo on a few of the songs and it would've sounded better. But if you think about it, for a rock album from some guys in their 50's, it's outstanding.

I felt the same way when I listened to it the first time. Guitars were great and the music in general was original and strong. Ian could give up some spotlight with his voice.
On the 2nd and 3rd time I liked it more and it caused me to re-listen to born into this and weapon. They fit well together with BIT being the weaker if the 3. They are making original music and that for a band of their age and stature is remarkable. Sounds like no one else. They have never walked the line of popular very well. This is who they are take it or leave it.
I like it that way.

I agree with all of this. Their post-Sonic Temple stuff can be a little hit-and-miss, but I enjoyed Choice of Weapon. I feel like they took the best ideas & music from Weapon, and used that to make Hidden City.
I think it's solid from start to finish. Duffy's guitars are great, and I think John Tempesta's drums really drive the album

What SHOULD I be listening to post Ceremony?
Singles? Not albums.
Ian's voice has to be faltering. Don't forget he toured with The Doors. I'm sure anyone trying to fill Morrison's shoes had his foot on the gas all the time voice-wise. It was brief but I bet he put a few thousand miles on those vocal chords.

For a pure hard rock album, Beyond Good and Evil is great from start to finish. I think it's their heaviest, darkest stuff
Of the recent trilogy, I think Hidden City is the best.
I'm old-school, so I still listen to complete albums, but you can find some really good rockin' tracks on the other albums if you just want to cherry-pick the tracks you like.

I like weapon more than hidden. Here are the tracks I suggest.
BGE - War, Rise and Bridges Burn are highlights
Weapon - Honey from Knife, the wolf, for the animals, Everyman and woman, lucifer
Born into this - rockstar, sabpvages,I assassin
The cult (black goat album) - star, be free, gone, universal you.
I think yiu have to listen to the whole album to appreciate but those at the ones you will enjoy.

I am skeptical. They just have changed too damn much too many times.
The last great album they put put was Beyond Good and Evil. I still can listen to "The Witch" any time.

I'm listening to it now. I hear a lot of punk, blues, heavy rock, and stripped down sound. This is, thus far, a lot of what they did on Electric. Let me hear the rest and I may interpret differently.

Very true. It's impossible for him to hit that high note. I also have wondered, besides drugs and alcohol (and Ian was a saint compared to people like Scott Weiland), if weight gain had anything to do with his change. Ian would not be recognized by 99 percent of the world if he was walking down the street today.
I wish Jamie Stewart would reunite with the band and they could have at least 3/4 original members of The Cult and the Dreamtime era.

If Beyond Good and Evil came out after Sonic Temple or maybe Ceremony, they probably would have kept their momentum.
Billy Duffy still brings it IMO.

Jamie and Mark Brzezicki joined Ian and Billy in 2009 for a show in England.

Looking at the comments, Jamie joined them again for a Love Removal Machine song in 2011. Apparently Jamie has come out of his reclusive ways over the past few years.

He played with them again during a show on the electirc 13 tour. I did the meet and greet that year and didn't consider Ian overweight. Just sort of rude. Billy was a great and very personable and liked wyse & tempesta too. Sorry the they departed with wyse.he and John were a good backbone. Billy still rips if up and pulls the band along. It is sort of his show now.

Where was this? When? Fill me in on the rude part. I find that interesting, but not surprising at all.

At HOB in New Orleans. He didn't come out for the private sound check. When we did the photo shoot he was a bit short and disengaged. He seemed to just want to get it over with. Billy however was cool talked to each one of us for a bit. Even shared that his daughter was born around the time of ours in 2002. (Ours was more than likely conceived the night of their first 2001 show at the varsity. Ian just wanted to sign the poster and be off. I also didn't realize how short Ian is. I was a good 5 to 7 inches taller than him. He had tennis shoes on though. Ref of band was cool and the show kicked arse so I was all good.
