I love the Beatles and im 19 so obviously their held up a little. I like 90 percent of their stuff id say and they are on my ipod for when im in the mood for it
It sounds stupid but go watch "Across the Universe". Its what got me into them with how deep their catalog was and it showed the kind of storytelling and creativity in their songs (Really good movie too)

It definitely holds up. I know more Beatles fans now than I did 30 years ago.

But I'm asking you to. Forget about what they inspired, and just play their music. Does it speak to you? Do you like it? Love it. Eh?
Yes, I do. My statement is to the fact of why they are so popular.
For instance who was the first black baseball player to break the color barier. Jackie Roberstson
Who was the second. I'm sure some know w/o looking it up, but not majority wouldn't know.

Yes.
Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt Pepper
Magical Mystery Tour
White Album
Abbey Road
All very strong albums that I can listen to at any time and fully enjoy. Yes, they hold up better than just about any "classic rock" band. And I HATE classifying them as classic rock.

Lennon /McCartney are-were,the top rock composers of all time. Zep was great but look at how many of thier songs are reworked versions of old great blues men.Same goes for the stones ,and nothing wrong with that.As for originality, pink floyd is more original than the stones or zep.The Beatles have written some amazing stuff. I like them all

The Beatles broke up 22 years before I was even born and they are by far my favorite band, so yes, I think their music holds up. I know a lot more people that this is the case for too.
And to answer your question, yes, if they were more an "indie, under the radar type band", they'd still be my favorite. It all comes down to personal opinion, but you don't sell 1 billion records if your music can't hold up. Their compilation album of number 1 singles was the best selling album in the first decade of the 2000s. That alone should tell you that their sound has stood the test of time.

The late 60s stuff holds up. The early stuff not so much. But I feel the same way about the Stones before Satisfaction in 1965.

I think their music holds up. I'm not sure why, though, especially considering they didn't do any concerts for substantial part of their existence.
To me, they just sound like a run-of-the-mill pop band.
I do like the song "Hey Jude," though (as long as it's the Wilson Pickett version).
The song "Ob-la-di Ob-la-da" makes me want to come un-fricking-glued.

Seeing how their music is still selling well 40 years after their break-up, I would say "yes." My 17 year old son loves the Beatles (and the Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin...), so it's not just us "old folks" buying their music. Their music revolutionized and entire industry.

I stopped reading right here.
Have you really stopped and listened to albums like Abbey Road or Revolver? Regardless of tastes and subjectivity, it's hard to imagine anyone would put The Doors over The Beatles.

I don't really understand your point... Is it I just want to hear from people who share my point of view and will tell me how right I am??? Or are you wanting debate.
Not busting your chops b/c I love a good debate.
I disagree that Beatles music as whole is dated and yes
Obla dee makes my skin crawl but I don't like everything of anybody.
I think there is a reason why people like Beatles remakes.
It's hard to make chicken salad out of chicken shite. But good songs can be remade well.
It's hard for me to take the history and the place the Beatles had in it out of the equation. Maybe because I'm probably a good bit older than you (yes, I'm an old fart) I can see better how music was changed by the Beatles. If you want to see a difference then go back and listen to what was playing in the rest of pop music when the Beatles were riding high.
You want to talk about dated? Next to the Beatles, it sounded dated and it was brand new.
I kind of wonder whatbeatles albums you have listened to, all the way through.
Really, it's just not your cup of tea. You don't care for it. Big deal. You think it totally dated. Your choice.
But many disagree with you. Why do you feel the need to garner support for this point of view?
