Apparently they have a songwriters night periodically and tomorrow night (1/25) is one of them. Anyone every been? Do the songwriters change out/take turns periodically and play their songs? Or is it more of a jam session. There's a guy I've been following for many years that is playing there tomorrow and I was wondering if it's worth the hour drive. Not real interested in the jam session scenario, but would make the drive to hear a 30-40 minute set by him.

TIA

If I remember correctly, it’s a songwriters in the round format. Basically, all the songwriters are on the stage at the same time and take turns playing one song each then repeating. When the vibes are good, by the end of the show, all of the songwriters are playing on each others’ songs and adding harmonies and guitar leads. When the group of songwriters is really good, those kinds of events can be really fun.

Well, if you’ve been playing acoustic sets regularly around BR and know the host, it’s pretty easy. I’ve been on a few similar events, but never the one at the Basin. It’s mostly networking. If you find out who puts that event and dm him your originals, you should have no problems getting on the list for future events, or at least as a backup in case someone has to drop.

Basin isn’t an open mic, though. As for open mics, I like the Wednesday one at Le Chien in Denham Springs and the Thursday one at Soulshine in BR. And yeah, I’d be down.

The above reference to Travis....was Travis McCready of Natchez.

Had to look up who the singer of the above songs were....never heard of the group....but wiki enlightened me....lol

Attended the songwriters night last night at the Basin. Really cool venue with great acoustics. 6 artists total. Three artists at a time on stage and rotated through 4 songs each. A really good show and a great way to spotlight original music.

I understand that it is held the last Wednesday of the month.
