You are right about the whole “Grunge” label but when someone says Alt Rock that could be a band from anywhere in the country with a similar sound as the bands we are talking about. When you say grunge that kinda narrows the conversation down to the Seattle area. That why I used it even though Cobain would hate me right now lol.
They would call bands like Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer grunge though.

I thought about making a spin-off “favorite albums of the 90s” thread based off this one, but it was just too damn hard. I tried to make one top ten list and it didn’t initially include OK Computer, any Pavement, any Guided by Voices, etc. and it just felt wrong.

Aka "Man of Golden Words"

Man of Golden Words Lyrics
[verse 1]
Wanna show you something like the joy inside my heart
Seems I've been living in the temple of the dog
Where would I live if I were a man of golden words?
And would I live at all?
[Chorus]
Words and music, my only tools
Communication
[verse 2]
And on her arrival, I will set free the birds
It's a pretty time of year when the mountains sing out loud
Tell me, Mr. Golden Words, how's about the world?
Tell me can you tell me at all, yeah
[Chorus]
Words and music, my only tools
Communication
[bridge]
Let's fall in love with music
The driving force of our livings
The only international language
Divine glory, the expression
The knees bow, the tongue confesses
The lord of lords, the king of kings
The king of kings, oh yeah
[Chorus]
Words and music, my only tools
Communication
Words and music, my only tools
Communication
Anyone interested in why the grunge legends held him in such high regard should check them out. He was also in a band called Malfunkshun with his brother before MLB.
The guy was incredibly talented. Such a waste.
He would have been a yuge Rock Star had he lived.
"Would" was written in his honor by Jerry Cantrell, and Staley wore Andy Wood's orange shirt in the video.

21 of the people shown in the Runaway train video were found because of the video.
That's pretty cool.
That video was part of the singers probation or whatever

They would have probably been the first really big band to come out of Seattle and take the country by storm.
I disagree. MLB would just have been a footnote if Chloe Dancer Crown of Thorns was never on the Singles soundtrack. Soundgarden was already on the scene and starting to gain momentum. They were getting MTV play and had a song on Pump up the Volume soundtrack by the time MLB was released. Same for AIC. Facelift was released about the same time it was a slow build and then almost a summer later became the first big album of the Seattle scene.

I had Shine and Louder Than Love in 89.
