Does anyone remember Shep Grant? He had a great two-sided soul hit in the early 60s, "You'll Cry Tomorrow" b/w "You Found My Lonely Heart A Home".
One of the best records ever, but nobody remembers it.

It's ironic that the "northern soul" sound was perfected by a Jew from New.York.City.
Leiber, Stoller, Spector, Berns, Goffin, King, Mann, Weil, Barry, Greenwich, Pomus, Shuman, etc etc etc...

I wouldn't call it soul
Noteworthy for the double track effect on his vocal. Didn't know it was being done this early.

Thanks for the download. "Easy Lovin" is more rock and roll than soul, and has a little country vibe as well. Tremendous vocals by Wade.

Charles Brown & Amos Milburn - "I Want To Go Home" (1959)
Sam Cooke would later rework this into "Bring It On Home To Me"

Alvin Robinson - "Something You Got" (1964)
quote:
An excellent bit of early funk from New Orleans! Alvin Robinson does a fantastic job on Chris Kenner's classic "Something You Got" – taking the song as slow as humanly possible, punching it across the grooveline like a baker working on a pile of sourdough!

Lorraine Ellison - "Stay With Me" Does it get any better than that?
I haven't heard this, but it MUST be better than Sam Smith. His version should be rebranded, "St. Hay w/ Me-OWW!".
