I just listened to Vega and Rev for the first time in a LONG time and I just heard this album for basically the first time again.
For some, random and pointless noise made by 2 guys; for others, it's a grandpa to a lot of the 1980's dark wave. It's beautiful and strange, untouchable, scary as hell, confusing, and as original as it gets.
Thoughts?
Give it a lissen.

*Cheree/Girl is the sound I like more from this duo. Frankie Teardrop will just make you wish you would not have listened.

Alan Vega just croaked a couple of months ago. I pulled this one out when I heard he passed and listened to it for the first time in a couple of years. I like Frankie Teardrop and Ghostrider a lot. Great album.

I have listened to Frankie Teardrop once. I think that'll do.
It's not like I can put it on the family road trips; certainly do not need to listen on my 7:15 drive to work. I definitely do not want to gain any headphones introspection from it.
That truly is the only song I own that I will NEVER listen to again. I wish they could have recorded "Diamonds, Furcoats, Champagne" (first track on the 2nd album) instead of that. BUT it would take away a lot of that vibe, I get it.
The sound of the debut album to me reminds me of when NY was extremely unsafe and dark and the subways were crime zones. It's like director William Friedkin hired them to do the soundtrack to some movie based around Queens Tunnel or the Bronx. And this was the result.

Suicide is not music for mass consumption. Not for parties, not for Introduction to music 101, not for commercial background tunes, not for passive, casual listening in any way. And in that way it is brilliant.
It always surprises me how people wrap their heads around music. In some cases people get so repulsed by the fact that it can't be plugged into situations like I listed above and somehow that makes it almost the equivalent of being threatened or having a crime visited upon them. They get so violently offended.
I would have loved to see a live Suicide show back in the day. I've seen a few live shows where the artist plays mind games with the audience. It's not for everybody but it can be very memorable. Alan Vega was one of the real originators of that kind of thing (him and Iggy Pop) and he did it at a time when it was volatile and unpredictable how an audience would react. Very brave artist.

It was a hard record for me to process when I first heard it years ago... had never heard anything like it..
I always liked the Gories cover of Ghost Rider
Dream Baby Dream is my favorite song of theirs off their second record.. Love Bruce's cover, too..
Alan vega's solo work is pretty good too..
But everyone should check out the record he made with Alex Chilton and Ben Vaughn "Cubist Blues"
Fat City

Yep. Do you realize "Dream Baby Dream" was almost performed at the 2009 SuperBowl by Bruce? Holy hell, that would have been something for Suicide to store in their files of WOW.
Debut record is an absolute category of its own. The only groups who can halfway say they did something to the effect that Suicide did would be the Stooges and Velvet Underground...and they are still miles off the mark that Vega and Rev created.
