Gave this a first listen tonight. Solid album. Definitely has that low, grinding bass work, heavy blues, very focused on the music rather than vocals. Obviously very influenced by Kyuss (which is NOT a bad thing).

I don't know if that's the case. Kyuss sounds more upbeat to me. Both bands were originally around at the same time. Dopesmoker in particular took a long time to get a proper release. I think it was recorded in the mid 90s, then eventually a shortened version of it was released under the name Jerusalem. It was about a dozen years or so before the full version was officially released, though I'm sure there were bootlegs and demos floating around.
