Anyone else going this year? This is my first year and I am pumped.
Do any of you seasoned veterans have any suggestions or recommendations for a first timer?
TIA

I went in 2014 and had a blast. I skied from 9am-2pm everyday then boozed and went to shows until 2am. Didn't have a single hangover. The shuttle for getting around is awesome! My group stayed at CrossTimbers and it was really nice with a heated pool, hot tub, and all kinds of other amenities.
My favorite venues were the Grand Ballroom and the Dung Beetle Saloon. We also went to the Big Tent a couple nights. If you're wanting to check out some specific shows at the smaller venues I suggest getting there early and even showing up a couple acts in advance. They are pretty strict on capacity and the smaller venues fill up quick. A little secret about the Grand Ballroom and Dung Beetle Saloon....they are both located in the Steamboat Grand hotel. If you're a bit sneaky you can use a side door inside the Grand Ballroom that opens to a service hallway....walk down that hallway and then you can use a side door to get in the Dung Beetle Saloon. We did that a few nights when the Dung Beetle was at capacity. As any big festival, I would look at the schedule and do a little planning on who you want to check out. Probably my favorite festival I've ever been to and had it on my bucket list for many years.

The format sounds like SXSW, except there aren't badges, wristbands, etc.
So the festival is just at all the venues in the town?

Thanks jphil, that's some great info. My plan is to do exactly what you did. Ski in the morning and booze in the afternoon/evenings.
We are staying at the Sheraton so the Grand ballroom is close. I have a tentative schedule right now but may change some things around to get into the smaller venues.

If Roger Creager is doing his Piano Man Show, check that out for sure. I wasn't able to hit up that show since the bar was packed to capacity and didn't feel like waiting in line. That is always one of the top shows at Musicfest but you have to show up a couple hours early to get a seat and sit through the bands playing before him.
This year's lineup is pretty darn good and I wish I would have signed up.
Also another tip: If you enjoy yourself enough to want to go again next year, you can put in for next year on the last day of Musicfest (or at some point towards the end). That's the best way to secure a spot for the following year.
