Stars -- Set Yourself on Fire

Just listened. It was released in 2004 -- what in the hell have I been doing with myself the last 8 years? This album is FANTASTIC. I love the songs Calendar Girls, Your ex-lover is dead, One more night, sleep tonight, soft revolution
Anybody else dig this?
Is this the best album they've put out?
Why are there so many solid Canadian bands these days? There are more people in California than in their entire damn country, how are they kicking arse in music? Should we invade them? Actually, scratch that. All I would really want is Montreal.*
Anybody heard the new album by Stars?
Other thoughts?
Go!

Definitely their best album, but I haven't heard the new one yet. It is getting really good "return to form" reviews.

yeah SYOF was one of those formative indie albums back in the early 00s. Your Ex Lover Is Dead is a ma'frickin classic to me now. I listened to the new album on Spotify and it's pretty good, nothing great, but definitely worth filtering out the good tracks and putting them in rotation.
I'm seeing them in DC in a few weeks. should be a fun nostalgia show.

I actually heard Your Ex-Lover Is Dead on the O.C. back in the day, and thats how I got into Stars. I haven't listened to many albums by them, but I did like SYOF. They're really fun live too.
I just downloaded the new one, and will be listening to it sometime this week.

Good thread, bro.
I really liked Stars - Hold on When You Get Love and Let Go When You Give It off the new CD.
I haven't listened to their old stuff. I'm too much of a hipster, I guess.
I really only keep up with stuff that is new. I will give the 2004 release a listen tho.

Same here.
Those O.C. Mixtapes were great. Almost always loaded with good bands.

i agree. i almost want to credit both the o.c. and garden state for getting me hooked to alternative/indie music.

I've heard the two subsequent releases, but I can't think of them by name. Midnight Coward is my favorite from the Album after Set Yourself on Fire. Dead Hearts from the next.
