other basses like music man's and rickenbackers. those two basses make a squier/MIM fender sound and play like a toy.
Well, yeah. Those are higher end. My American Original 60's Jazz and USA Geddy Lee do as well. To your point though, I had an entry level Sterling by Music Man Stingray for a while just to try out and it was better quality than the Squiers at a similar price point. I don't think Ricks do budget basses or guitars.
Everyone needs a beater bass/guitar though. I throw my parts bass in the trunk as a spare for gigs that I can downtune for a few songs. It saved my butt at the last gig when I broke my A string.

Mostly playing in my room. Once in a blue moon with a friend or two. Only reason I’m thinking about the rumble 100 is because they have the aux in and out for pedals. They rumble 40 doesn’t have that

my advice for bass amps: don't buy fender bass amps.
ampeg makes better cheaper combo bass amps. a BA115 is all you would need and you can snag one for under $200 used.

you don't need to plug into that. just plug into a pedal and run the cord to the amp input.
if you want to spend good money on a pedal, get the VT sansamp. one of the best pedals you can buy for playing live and for studio use.

I have that same VT Bass. It is awesome.

best pedal i've ever bought. you can shape any tone you want with it. I play flat wound strings so it's got a big vintage motown thumpy james jamerson vibe.

my "beater bass" is a 1983 fender bullet deluxe. snatched it recently for $500.

I use the VT to get my always on preamp sound. I also go for that old school kind of gritty, tubey sound. I also have this bad boy for songs where I want to get heavy and dirty:
I run them through a Sushi Box Finally Tube DI into my amp and the board. Sounds really good.
