Spotify: Discovery Weekly Playlist

New feature. Spotify automatically generates a "discover weekly" playlist for users. It updates with new music every Monday. Based on what you listen to as well as users with similar tastes as your own. I'm pretty impressed with what it put together for mine in the fact that it's pretty on, and in the fact that the artists aren't all ones I already know.

is it under browse?

I couldn't find it on my wife's mobile either. I think that:
1) You have to add it from the laptop, at which point it will appear in your playlists on mobile as well (that's what I did)
or
2) They're only rolling it out for a limited number of users right now to test it out.
But yes, it's located under "browse->Discover->" And the first playlist under "top recommendations for you" is Discovery Weekly, and it has kind of a watermarked picture of my facebook profile picture as the icon.

Spotify discovery sucks IMO. Not that anyone else is really any better.
It's all like bands that released one album in 2006, or something that sounds nothing like what I want to hear.
Oh, you like Jason Isbell, then I bet you'll love Sleater-Kinney

This Discovery Weekly seems a little better than their normal discovery algorithm. Not sure if they've redone it or what.
It could also be that my son hasn't been jumping on my Spotify account and listening to awful Minecraft parodies in the last month, though.
He really jacked the coolness of my Year in Spotify results last year with his obsession with the Minecraft Parody genre.

Just threw my mix on... has some songs I am aware of just artist I have yet to follow.
As for as the rest of it... good tunes thus far.
Their browse section has unlocked some gems of bands for me in the past. I am sure this will lead some new music into my lap which is great.

I checked it out and it did a great job mixing songs.
It had a southern rock lean with Allman Brothers, Pure Prairie League, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Tom Petty, and Old 97's but it also threw in Pete Townshend and Squeeze. Bonus points for including Blue Mountain and Dexateens.

Most useful part IMO. Sometimes the Similar Artists feature works well too. Like getting to Kurt Vile by way of the War on Drugs. Cool. Sometimes it's pretty shitty and there are zero similarities.

I love the mix as well... have found two bands I was unaware of. One I am ashamed as a Aaron Turner/Isis fan to mention is One Man Gloom... a side project of his that has gotten big since Isis stop making tunes
Nice metal-core/melodic metal/sludge
The other is Helms Alee... very unique band

I've made a playlist or queue before using the similar artists feature. Choose an artist. Go to similar artists. Choose an artist I don't listen to from that. Choose one of their most played songs to add to queue then hit similar artists and do that over and over until I have a couple of hours of music.

My spotify discovery playlist is all over the place
Guess that's whatt happens when you listen to everything, from zydeco music, led zep, 311, red hot chili peppers, rage, Kendrick Lamar, eminem, etc

Yep. I've done that with quite a few of my playlists.
I made a Myspace Era Rock playlist for nostalgic purposes
stuff like Thrice, At the drive-in ,etc.
I ended up with over 100 songs by using that similar artists feature. It reminded me of all the music/bands from that time. That6 helped me with a Blues playlist and Jazz as well.

I personally have found a ton of new artist that way.
I have already found some using this method, although it is more naturally occurring threw the background music rather than just searching.

Listening to my 2nd Weekly playlist. This one is probably better than the first. Some bands I've really liked so far:
Junip "Walking Lightly"
The Preatures "Is This How You Feel"

If you like Junip, you'll like Jose Gonzales (he's the lead). He has a bunch of solo albums.

Prefered my first week list more. This week I had a bunch of grunge and college rock

I love how some of the new features work.
Like showing you where a band gets its most listens. Breaks it down by a top 5
FYI Kadavar is BIG in Mexico City lol
