People that dislike those type bands have an understanding of what's musical and what isn't.
Those bands aren't. There is absolutely no dynamics or phrasing in their playing. the melody of the song is difficult to make out. Everything fortississimo.

I don't understand how playing in one dynamic range is more difficult than varying your sound.
As for on the field formation. I give bands that "march" in this style credit. It takes a great deal of energy to execute what they do.
But to say their shows are as challenging as anything by a drum corps or a band like ohio state or texas a&m is silly. Executing formations while sounding great is tougher.

I've listened. And these bands follow the same simple recipe. A strong focus on visual while playing as loud as possible. No phrasing, articulation, or dynamics.
