Songs with effective verbal emotes

I was listening to "Reason To Believe" by Tim Hardin tonight, and one of the things I've always loved about the song is the audible crack in his voice when he sings "knowing that you li-ed straight faced while I cried." It's very powerful and just really adds a sense of emotional honesty to the song. Whether or not it was done for theatrics matters little to me.
Can you guys think of any other songs where this occurs? To me, some of the best music is when the artist clearly communicates their emotion, whether it be pain, anger, joy, or anything else.

i've always thought sinead o'connor's version of "nothing compares 2 u" is agonizingly sad at certain points.

very good example!
Also, if I remember correct from VH1's Pop-Up Video, the tears she cried in the video were real.

yeah, i think i remember seeing that, too...i remember there was a rumor that she had recently had a miscarriage, but there have been some pretty outlandish rumors about music over the years.

Anything Joe Cocker sings. Especially on the live album, Mad Dogs & Englishmen.

a lot of people don't care for his voice, but i think he fits this thread as well...i'd rather hear his own version of any of the songs he's written than anyone else's.

When the average American thinks of folk music, they'll usually throw out the names Bob Dylan, Arlo & Woodie Guthrie, and Pete Seeger. It's nice to see some love for Tim Hardin on here.

I'll go ahead and post two versions of one song that has always gotten to me for its emotional qualities...
Bonnie Raitt- I Can't Make You Love Me
Bon Iver's version (with Nick of Time mashed on the end)
ETA: There's no major emotes in the Bonnie Raitt version, but (interesting CSB) the vocals were recorded in one take because there was no way for her to get into the right frame of mind to sing it again.

Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah - Cohen's low, rasp voice is just badass
Kate Bush - this woman's work - especially this one accompanied by the video. I watched my wife cry her eyes out when I showed it to her years ago.
