If you read the OP, the song was written especially for a specific part of the movie. The part of the movie that helps make it a chick flick.
They asked Dianne Warren to write it because she was good at writing those types of songs. Chick songs. Chicks buy the hell out of chick songs.
I wish I were good at writing that type of thing, but I'm just not. Most guys aren't.
That's why they got a chick to write it.

It has nothing to do with being written by a female or primarily for them. There’s plenty of good music that fits this bill. It’s just a god awful song and Aerosmith are obnoxiously awful as well

You may be right. I've never looked at the words to the song. I've also never listened to Aerosmith very much.
I just know that the song made a shitload of money. There's nothing wrong with that.

revived their presence on the mainstream charts.
No it didn’t.
Aerosmith was huge in the mid-70s, then hit a lull for about 9-10 years. But after that, from about 1987 on, they were a fixture near or at the top of the charts.

80s-90s Rock ballads are really hard to fairly judge present day.
This one was a freakin prom song right out of the box.
Then there’s definitely that. My crazy gf loved the song.

No lies detected. There's a significant lack of rock love ballads in today's musical climate.

The hate for a pretty good pop rock song in this thread is pretentious and ridiculous. As Warren said - the performance is great. The melody is just fine and catchy. Who gives a shite what the lyrics are?

I believe it was for the scene when Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler are making love with Animal Crackers

Perfect take.
I enjoy listening to groups like this duscuss themselves and their careers.
They really believe they were good and are held in the same regard/ high esteem as groups such as The Stones and The Beatles.
Aerosmith made two albums that were listenable.
