Someone explain the Based God Gimmick, Please

Alright, just when I thought I had Lil B figured out, he threw me for a loop. Or maybe I am just over-thinking this.

Until recently, I thought Lil B was just an average rapper. Basically an average member of a forgettable ringtone-rap one hit wonder. Except he wanted to stay relevant in hip hop and tried something no one else had ever thought of. While Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye, etc battle to be the best rapper in the world according to critics and mainstream fans, Lil B would actually try to write the worst songs in the world.

Songs that Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope would cringe at. So he wrote these idiotic songs and released 7 or 8 of them every day, along with videos that were shot and edited in half an hour. Somehow, by trolling the Internet, he got a following and kept going.

But seeing a couple of his interviews, I wonder if I'm being too cynical. He seems to earnest to be a guy who is just fricking with everyone. He's also obviously not mentally retarded, so we can rule out that possibility as well. There are a few videos where he puts together coherent sentences and even uses words (correctly) that would suggest he may have even graduated from high school and gone to college.

So can anyone tell me what's going on?
