Not a huge Lennon fan, as I'm more of McCartney guy. Lennon always made fun of the fact McCartney wrote terrific hooks because, well, he couldn't. And being in a pop band, hooks are sort of important.

Still, I like A Day in the Life. His solo stuff is pretty hit and miss for me. I guess I'll say Working Class Hero is my favorite of his solo stuff.

That's his best solo song.

Beatles, I'd probably say Happiness is a Warm Gun, Girl or Revolution.

I always was a Macca guy myself, i go back and forth on whose Beatles stuff i like better, McCartney's post Beatles stuff is much better.

I won't count A Day in the Life since it is half Lennon half McCartney.

Beatles : I'm so Tired, Help!, I'm Only Sleeping
Solo: Watching the Wheels
Cover: I saw Oasis do a live acoustic version of Help! that was incredible.

Neil Young nailed his cover of "Imagine" on the Concert for 9-11. LINK

That´s a bunch of shite. Lennon was a smug a-hole, but more talented. Macca was more musician. I´m sure he said jingly stuff or something similar. I believe he said ´Muzak´ in ´How Do You Sleep´.

Lennon matched him when both were Beatles, for sure (and his solo stuff was certainly more artistic except for the excrement prior to his assasination, which paradoxically, is very famous and ubiquitous for many).

I used to have this conversation all the time in middle school and early high school. Strangely, I was staunchly Macca and attacked Lennon.

Go figure.

My God... I'd rather have people calling Lennon a dirty hippie who deserved to get shot than see him grouped with a (c)rapper

Thanks for shitting on the thread

This, and my favorite song featuring John Lennon is "I am the Walrus."

Best as a Beatle, imo, is Don't Let Me Down. I love everything about it.

Best solo is the whole Plastic Ono Band album.
