John Lennon's "#9 Dream" recently played at random on my phone (I generally shuffle ~20000 songs on my flashdrive). Hadn't heard it in forever and loved it.

It reminded me of the equally as swell "Om" by the Moody Blues.

Anyone have something similar to recommend?

I can't help you with Hare Krishna, but I've been wearing this one out lately.

Artist's name is Krishna Das. Sting sings backup. They work Amazing Grace into the song. Heard this on a flight to Asia about 15 years ago.

My all time favorite song is Within You Without You by the Beatles from Sgt. Pepper’s with George Harrison on the sitar. That shouldn’t be hard to find. (Also a big fan of Om and the In Search Of The Lost Chord album.)

It’s not pop but you might want to check out Shakti with John McLaughlin.

What Need Have I For This - What Need Have I For That - I Am Dancing At The Feet Of My Lord - All Is Bliss - All Is Bliss

Buckle up. That’s almost a half hour long.

Also, if you like the sound of the sitar, Ravi Shankar is one of the most famous musicians on the instrument. He taught George Harrison how to play it. If you like the sound of the tablas, the drums that have strings attached to the drum heads that allow the drummer to manipulate the tension while they’re playing, Zakir Hussain is a master. He did some work with Mickey Hart from the Grateful Dead. This also isn’t pop but this whole album is great:

I adore this mystical Eastern-influenced original composition by one of my favorite musicians, Sina Doering. Her father, Mike Wilbury, was the George Harrison character in the Silver Beatles tribute band and plays the sitar parts. This is a brilliant percussion tour-de-force by Sina, who attaches bongos to her drum kit and also plays the bass guitar parts - sometimes by tapping the strings with her drumsticks. Twelve minutes of bliss. Listen to the whole thing, and how it evolves.

For a different sound, this composition by one of Sina's collaborators, bassist Juna Serita, features the traditional Japanese three-stringed Shamisen.
