Wondering what the board thinks of him. Some of his new songs suck. But his mixtapes are amazing, and most of his songs from the early 2000's. I just don't see why so many people hate him

I think "tunechi" sucks.

Still my favorite rapper of my lifetime. Still a huge fan.

I am in the minority though.

Right now, yes he's been making some bad music. Years ago he was good. I was never a huge fan, I think he was kind of overrated in his prime, but he was making good music.

I don't think he sucks. I like all of his mixtapes, though some think "Sorry 4 the Wait" was the worst mixtape ever put out by any artist. & 95% of the time when he's a featured artist he has a good verse. He doesn't rap like he used to, but that doesn't mean he's lost it.

Yeah, he's fallen off pretty bad. Just seems like he's gotten real lazy and uses those damn punch-line rhymes to much.

Example: Watch me go retarded... Yellow Short Bus.

shite like that is weak as frick and he uses way to many of them. Seems like after Drake got big doing these punch-lines every one else started copying him, especially Weezy.

Wayne?
All of "his" albums pre-drought were the staple of his style... Afterwards was nothing but him telling his influences that he was done and that he was tired of conforming to a style that he no longer wanted squeal with. Lil turd literally took over and completely ran the game for 5 years (putting several other MCs in position that they would have never seen if it wasn't for Wayne). In all seriousness though, he put South FL on the map and ran with it (frick ricky, Brisco came in and knocked everyone else out of their place.. One hit wonders started popping up and dropping some fire tracks, look at Dunk Ryders, ala NOLA rap that Wayne grew up in. It was a movement that was influenced by emotionless rap- Flo Rida and everyone else promoting Opa-Locka... The movement was shite compared to early Wayne).

When Wayne Quit

Look at whenever Wayne and Juelz would drop a tape, it was unreal. Why? Because Juelz intimidates Wayne the same that Drake does- laugh all you want, their mixtapes speak for themselves.

ETA: I'm drunk as piss and will further this conversation with anyone that wants to argue my position tomorrow.

i go back and forth, some of his stuff i hate, b/c I can't stand it when rappers that have nothing to do with the hood try and act hood, so when he raps about murder and stuff it turns me off, on the other hand sometimes one of his songs will come on and i can't get enough, like "wasted" came on the other day and it was hype, so for me, idk, he sucks sometimes

also that last cd he put out SUUUCKKEEEDD.

I liked his older stuff when I was in highschool. Now it all just sounds the same and his voice annoys me. To answer the question: Do I think he sucks? Nah. Do I like him? Nah. Do I listen to him? Sometimes.

ETA: I'm currently digging Kendrick Lamar's stuff. He's got some pretty badass songs out right now.

His albums of late leave something to be desired. But he usually does a good job on his official mixtapes.

what's the deal with mixtapes anyway? why don't rappers just release them as official albums?

Is there a reason you post this in every single thread Wayne is mentioned in?

A couple of reasons. It is a way to give the fans some free music to show appreciation. Also there is no record label telling the artist what to do. The artist has full freedom to do what they want. For instance a lot of times an artist will deviate from the verse-hook-verse formula. Mixtapes are usually aimed at the hardcore fans. The hip hop fans as opposed to people who are fans of certain hip hop songs. Right now I find the number of great mixtapes outnumbers the number of great hip hop albums.
