The Holy Ghost Reception Committee - "What Do You Ask Of Me?" (1969)

A group of students at NYC's Regis High School wanted to make some hip music for the church services at this Catholic HS. Usually that's a recipe for musical disaster, but I really like this slice of psych-folk.

Guitarist Dennis Blair would go on to become a stand up comedian, opening for George Carlin for 20 years.

The She's - "The Fool" (1966)

There were quite a few all-female bands in the swingin' sixties, though I don't believe any of them actually had a national hit. Still, some of them made great records.

This classic was the flip side of the She's' only single. It's a minute-fifty of two-chord power and driving bass line. The Ramones should have covered it.

The Wee Beasties - "Something To Do With The Weather" (1968)

Brilliant popsike, the flip side of this Toronto band's only single.

The Search - "Climate" (1967)

Climate change has an anthem! The only single from this San Diego garage-dance outfit.

The flip was a curious popsike cover of the old novelty hit "Mr. Custer"

The Moon - "Faces" (1968)

Left Bankesque popsike w/former Beach Boy David Marks on guitar. The Moon released two albums; this was the flip of their first single.

As I've written here before, there were a surprising number of all-female rock bands in the '60s, though I don't believe any had a national hit.

The Hairem would later change their name to She, & release one single. The A side is innocuously anachronistic pop, but the flip is a nice rocker with groovy Vox organ.
