how in the world is that even anything close to nashville pop country

I'm pretty sure 80%+ of Country-pop singers in the past 10 years have a song with that exact story.

Can't remember the names, but I know that Jason Aldean and Jimmy Wayne both have songs like that, to name two off the top of my head.

You said it was regularly occurring theme amongst a genre that dominates the billboard charts. If that's the case you should have no problem finding one such example from the billboard charts.
