Stumbled upon this as I study this Friday night and figured I could leave it here...
Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger (Live)
ETA: I would be hard pressed to find a Beatles song that I enjoy more than this gem.

I really like that song. Hey check this out, found this on that song's wiki page
And nothing against you, just showing OP how "irrelevant" The Beatles are since you know, only old people and virgins listen to them.
quote:
Noel said of the song, "[It] reminds me of a cross between "All the Young Dudes" and [something] The Beatles might have done."

People don't like the beatles. The band never gets brought up. Nobody puts them on a playlist. You won't hear one their songs at a party. This conclusion is supported by what I believe to be a more than sufficient sample size.
List of best-selling music artists
Oasis doesn't even make the list. Paul McCartney as a solo artist makes the list, but Oasis comes up short. Oasis isn't even as well liked as Spice Girls based on record sales.
I won't bother to point out the sample size for my method compared to your sample size. But I am going to mention that when the Beatles were selling their recordings the population of Earth was less, and their were political conditions that prevented their records from being sold to significant portions of that population.

what's funny of this thread is that if it weren't for the beatles, there would have never been the oasis that everyone knows.
heavily influenced and all

Don't get me wrong... I love the long haired foursome. And I can certainly see where Oasis is heavily influenced by the Beatles.
Especially in songs like Imagine and Hey Jude that what's his face so cleverly pointed out a few posts above.
I just really like the writing in Don't Look Back in Anger.

Huh never associated that line with Lennon's protest.
I always took it as he recognized he could've done so much more with his life. However, he is still so confident in his abilities that despite his lackadaisical attitude he can still accomplish great things. (i.e. future is still bright despite a dark past, don't look back in anger)

If you're arguing for The Beatles you might want to stay away from "musicianship" arguments.
The weakest link in the band was ringo, and even then he had his own quirky style
But Lennon, macca and Harrison were all very musically talented.

I don't know if it's been posted in this thread yet but I recall reading an interview in which Noel claimed he thought he was the reincarnation of John Lennon...despite the fact Noel was born before Lennon was murdered.
The "Don't Look Back in Anger" opening is a clear ripoff of the piano of "Imagine" and the line, as stated above, is obviously referencing Lennon-Ono bed-in protest.

Noel and Liam must be virgins then, according to this thread.

Noel admits that certain lines from the song are lifted from John Lennon: "I got this tape in the United States that had apparently been burgled from the Dakota Hotel and someone had found these cassettes. Lennon was starting to record his memoirs on tape. He's going on about 'trying to start a revolution from me bed, because they said the brains I had went to my head.' I thought 'Thank you, I'll take that'!"
FTR Anger is my favorite Oasis track
