Of all the new releases I have gone through lately, these two have really stood out for me. I highly advise anyone looking for something new to check out either of these two recordings. For those not familiar with Pinback, they have a Police similarity to them (IMO) and the bassist is great. As for Banks' second solo release, it is a departure from Interpol but quite good nonetheless. If you liked his Julian Plenty release, then you'll definitely like this one. He builds off of this, and you can see he is recording songs that he could not get away with in Interpol.

Has anyone listened to either of these yet? If so, I'm curious as to your thoughts? Are there any other bands you recommend that I may have missed over the last few months?

I need to get my hands on Information Retrieved. I love their albums. Their live shows leave a lot to be desired, but those two write some fantastic songs.

It's a must buy if you're a fan. Ironically enough, I skipped the Pinback show back in '07 in Houston to see Interpol on the same night. Interpol is a great live show, but everything I've seen on Pinback live backs up your statement. I'd still like to see them though. And yes, they are great composers.

Paul Banks - "The Base"

Paul Banks - "I'll Sue You"

Paul Banks - "Arise, Awake"

Sounds like Interpol without the coke hangover. I dig it.

"The Base" was stuck on repeat for about 30 mins when I first put it into my player the other day. That song is addictive!
