This thread failed on the OT, so I will reattempt to get listeners here. I got my hands on some songs in studio editing format, then loaded them up to ProTools 10 and isolated the instruments/vocals just to show people how much is going on in the background. You will see how many layers of vocals and instruments there are. For example, the average Def Leppard song has around 60-70 layers of just guitars. It's really quite amazing.

I apologize for my nephew's voice, he was right next to the recording device and his voice comes out quite loud when he speaks. I also apologize for the background noise, there were people coming in and out of the room as I played around.

Let me know what y'all think, and I will try and add more as they are made available to me. Hopefully, you can gain more respect for bands you may not like just by hearing how much is going on musically. For myself, I began to appreciate Maroon 5 (never liked them) once I heard the vocal harmonies in the link below.

More Than A Feeling - Boston

Long Train Runnin' - Doobie Brothers

The Artist in the Ambulance - Thrice

If I Never See Your Face Again - Maroon 5

One day I listened to a bunch of these and think they're great. I think some of them come from people who rip audio out of those guitar hero games to get the isolated instruments. Impressive that you know how to actually do it yourself.

Here's one of my favorites, Cliff Burton's bass only from Orion. A couple parts where he uses distortion I used to think were done with guitar but it's just this dude's bass and he's not even using a pick.

I have that version of Orion on my iPod. He was really an outstanding bass player. He's not like Cobain in the sense that people think he's better because of his tragic passing; He really is as good as everyone says. Makes some great sounds using just a bass. Quite amazing. Anesthesia is definitely a classic.
