Ernest Rogers - "The Mythological Blues" (1928)

The erudition of the lyrics is perhaps connected to Mr. Rogers being a graduate of Emory University.

I know no one can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell

Dylan's recording of that, I think it was on the Oh Mercy album, produced by Daniel Lanois, with a lot of help from The Nevilles and others, is one of my favorites of his.

"The roots of Rock run deeper than Robert Johnson"

Article on pre-Johnson blues
quote:

Eric Clapton, rightfully, revered the mysterious Southern bluesman Robert Johnson and, because of that, some dubbed him the father of rock ‘n’ roll. Anthony Mostrom, who also admires Johnson, nonetheless offers a point-by-point refutation of that latter opinion herein

That's really a R&R/R&B/Swamp Pop record, rather than pre-rock

But since I only get a reply here every six months or so, I won't complain too much

Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys - "Sittin' On Top Of The World"

Short film made for TV syndication in 1951

Bobby Koefer - pedal steel

The guy playing the upside-down guitar left-handed is apparently Cotton Whittington (couldn't find his pic online).

Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys - "I'm a Ding Dong Daddy From Dumas" (1937)

I'm a ding dong daddy baby, and liquor is my racket
Lotsa time when things are dull I deal in other traffic
I can sell you morphine, coke, or snow
Take a little shot and you're rarin' to go
'Cause I'm a ding dong daddy from Dumas babe
You oughta see me do my stuff

I got a chance to check out Bob Wills old tour bus a few years back, it's parked on a vacant lot in Turkey, Texas. It was in pretty bad shape. Hard to believe his Whole band travelled in that thing.

H. C. Speir (October 6, 1895 – April 22, 1972) was an American "talent broker" and record store owner from Jackson, Mississippi. He was responsible for launching the recording careers of most of the greatest Mississippi blues musicians in the 1920s and 1930s. It has been said that, "Speir was the godfather of Delta Blues" and was "a musical visionary". Without Speir, Mississippi's greatest natural resource might have gone untapped."

Among the numerous musicians whom Speir introduced to the record companies were William Harris, Ishman Bracey, Tommy Johnson, Charlie Patton, Son House, Skip James, Robert Johnson, Bo Carter, Willie Brown, the Mississippi Sheiks, Blind Joe Reynolds, Blind Roosevelt Graves, Geeshie Wiley, and Robert Wilkins.

Being a serious music collector, I am familar with a lot of earlier 20th century recordings. It's not like great music just started recently. I just wish younger people would take the time to expand their musical horizons.
That being said, still nothing better for me than late 60's psych and garage bands!
