Not at all to me.
Mumfords are dark and repetitive and pining. Edward Sharp is bright and druggy.
This criticism is weird to me, especially because a lot of people who make it will turn around and tell me about the musical diversity within EDM music. I find the genre no more uniform than any other current genre. Harmonies and acoustic instrumentation and emphasis on songwriting are similar themes, but it's done in a variety of ways that don't strike me as similar at all.
THATH's first and second albums are pretty radically different, even.

I agree with you here. I wasn't a huge fan of it, honestly. It wasn't because it wasn't the same old thing. I love it when artists are ambitious and step outside their shells. But it just didn't work for me with their second album.

I knew they were going to do it by the way they'd talked about the album prior to release. It's ok, but I just didn't really like it.
As an aside to this discussion, the bands put under the indie-folk label by the likes of Amazon or Pandora or Spotify always amaze me. Half of them include a ton of synthesized stuff which just contrasts really heavily with others in the genre, I have no idea how they define it.

Like I said earlier, I didn't really "get" their second album until I saw them tour on it. Some of those songs are really great live. I don't think it's as strong of an album as the first one, but it's still solid. It certainly isn't as immediately catchy as the first one.

They sound like a poor man's Arcade Fire to me. Or a folk rock band for people who wouldn't like more talented folk rock bands.

Head and the Heart is awesome. OMAM is equally as awesome to me.
I saw them in a venue a little bigger than HOB in France a couple years ago and it was one of the best shows I've been to. It could've been the circumstances surrounding the entire experience (international travel, etc.), but they put on a hell of a show. Both of the vocalists have incredible voices and their music meshes very well. I love them.

Interested to know who you think is a more talented folk rock band. Most of the ones mentioned in this thread are talented musicians and pretty strong songwriters.

yep. OMAM is pretty meh. Father John Misty is best in this genre
