Non-audiophile turntable recommendations

I’m buying a bunch of vinyl again, but I’m playing it on a cheap little self-contained turntable stereo that sucks arse. I’m not looking for vintage or high end, just the best quality, most bang for the buck <$200.

I’ll look on eBay tonight for some vintage tables to link to you.

Very nice of you because I haven’t a clue.

Under $200 new isn’t worth getting. I always tell people that if they want to gain all the attributes of playing LPs, they need to start with at least a Pro-Ject Debut table. Anything under and it just isn’t worth it.
There are places like AudioAdvisor that have demo sales—a ProJect will run around $300 for a demo unit.
Some vintage tables can be had for around $200, but the issue arises with the condition—the arm needs to be intact with no abuse and the bearing will certainly need to be pulled down and regreased.
Also—an old cartridge will probably not sound that great. They have internal suspensions in them that get dry rot over time. Sort of like a 30 year old car with original hoses and belts—they need to be replaced.
I’ll look for some newer demo tables as well.

U-Turn Orbit is another option. You can get a base model and upgrade it as you get more into it.

What do you plan on connecting it to? A receiver?
If the receiver doesn’t have a MM phono stage, you will also need a phono preamp. Budget around $60 for an inexpensive phono preamp.

Any thoughts on this? Comes with the pre amp as well.
