Just got my copy of Sea of Noise in the mail.

We'll see how it stacks up against half the city.

In b4 all their songs sound the same

If by the same you mean they use horns and the singer has a soulful voice. But so far this album is decidedly different from half the city.

I've listened to it all the way through and it's real good. I'm not sure I like it as much as the first one but I'm sure it'll grow on me.

That's exactly how I feel. Although to be fair, the first album is damn near impossible to follow up.

I like the first album a whole lot, and will also agree the songs tend to have the same sound. I don't feel that way about this album, though. I'll have to give it a few more listens before I can decide which I prefer.

So far, so good

I couldn't be happier for them. My old friend and fraternity brother from Bama plays keys in this band (Al Gamble), and I can tell you, he has certainly paid his dues for years in the music business. After 25 years in and out of bands trying to make it, he finally is making it with this band.

On a side note, his little brother (Chad Gamble), also a frat bro from Bama, has a similar story...years drumming in numerous different bands trying to make it. He joined Jason Isbell about 6 years ago and has been his drummer since.

While I am not a huge fan of the Americana music that is Isbell, I see them whenever they are near to support Chad.

On the other hand, I go see St. Paul whenever I can because they put on one hell of a show--and I like the music too!!

LINK

they were on CBS Saturday morning today...they did an interview and 3 songs. fantastic stuff. the new album is already growing on me after a few listens. it's definitely a little different sound. you can tell their influences for this were a lot of Prince, Sly, etc. so a little different from the first.

For sure. It's a more complete, mature album than half the city, imo. I still miss some of the raw nature of their debut, but it's a damn good album in its own right.

One of the songs, I think Brain matter, sounds like It's a bee gees song

I find this album borders more on 70s soul and frick where the first album was more of 60s Stax record sound.
Next album will probably sound like 80s Rick James
