New electric guitar string buzz help....

Just got a Jackson Minion electric guitar. 5th and 6th strings buzz. Strings are .09's (came on the guitar) and in standard tuning. A lot of mumbo jumbo on the web.
Easy fix? Hard fix? Give up?

Adjust the truss rod, or the bridge height. I would start with the bridge and slightly raise those strings that buzz. plenty of youtube vids to help. It's not rocket surgery.

Sometimes, you can play the buzz out of a new guitar. Folks expect a guitar to be completely set up from the store, but that's not always the case.
Production guitars occasionally need a little additional fret dressing. Do you have buzz on those strings up and down the neck, or it is limited to 1 fret?
The issue could be in the nut if the buzz persists up and down the neck. If it is limited to a single fret maybe have the shop check that fret's dressing.
Minor, occasional fret buzz is not really a huge concern. If it's consistent, persistent and repeatable, it is almost always correctable.

Randy-- I tried adjusting the bridge, strings got sloppy. String tuned to E, but not tuned to rest of strings. To get it tuned to other strings, i have to tighten and string is now under a lot of tension. Almost to where I can't fret note.
Ace-- buzzing up to 8th fret on the 6th string and 4th/5th fret on the 5th string.

I have a feeling the problem is in the nut, then.

You're chasing your tail, unfortunately. It may be difficult to get it back to a neutral set up to try again. I don't think it's a "difficult" fix, per se, but you're probably better off getting professional help.

Three words: pro set up. Don't dick around with it if you don't know what you're doing. Bring it to a guitar shop and get it set up. It's not expensive and in some cases a pro set up will completely transform a guitar and make it play better than you even thought possible.

I counted the turns on the screws, so I got it back to neutral.
Going seek professional help.
Thank you for you time.

If you've got 9's on it now and it was set up for 10's you might need more relief in the neck. It could also just be one or two high frets. You should be able to put a straight edge across the frets and none of them stick up higher than the rest. Nut and/or bridge issues could also be the culprit. Seeking pro help is the right way to go.

Are you brand new at this? (I ask because that is an entry level guitar) String buzz can be a result of poor fretting technique. Make sure you are pressing down solidly, and not on the fret but behind it.
It's also possible that you just have an uneven fret, which would not be uncommon on sub-$300 guitars.

Tiger--it came with 9's, I think most new Jackson's come with 9's. I have 10's on my others.
Cold--I have other electrics, all full size. I have been picking for about 30 years now. I went in wanting an acoustic and came out with the Minion. I like the size, easy to play in my recliner.....

My apologies -- in that case I would try switching to 11s. The Minion has a very short scale length (like a musicmaster) and I think 9's are just too small for that type of guitar. That might clear it up by itself

No harm done. My brother told me the same thing, almost word for word!!
