Damn, I had no idea new stuff was coming from Beirut. Easily one of my favorite bands and IMO one of the most underrated bands in the last 10-15 years. The new single, Gallipoli was released today. Listen here. I'm liking it...hopefully more robuts than the last album. The album is also titled Gallipoli and is out Feb 1st.

For those of you not familiar with Beirut, if you are a fan of music with lots of brass, piano, trumpets, ukulele, and accordian, I encourage you to give this band a shot.

I wasn't a huge fan of the last album, as it featured mostly piano and little of the other instrumentation that I mentioned. It was very bare, though I liked the single off it.

I've included some of my favorites below:

Gulag Orkestar

Postcards from Italy

The Shrew

Nantes

Very late bump but this came up in a search for Beirut.

Discovered these guys yesterday after hearing "Gallipoli" on Sirius XMU. It was a song that just instantly grabbed me and so I added them to my Tidal favorite artists and listened more extensively to their catalog last night.

Really interesting band/music and definitely worth checking out. I'd say it's likely to be appreciated more by folks who lean on the music than vocals or lyrics...not that dude's voice is bad but the music itself is where the magic happens.

New album is out today. I'm not yet sure what to think but I already like it better than No, No, No. It's got some real standout tracks. I like that the trumpet seems to be getting more use again. Just the compositions overall are bigger / better.

I'll probably have to check back in on this one, but thought I'd bump for anyone interested in giving it a listen.

I've given this album several spins. I think it's pretty solid overall. It's more a return to form for the band IMO. If I had to rank it among their other albums, it's be 4th behind Gulag, Flying Club Cup, and Rip Tide.

Again, If anyone is interested in the band, I'd recommend starting with any of those three albums, then moving on.

I agree with all your points. It's a pretty decent album all the way through and reminds me of their early stuff. The Rip Tide is my all time favorite followed closely by The Flying Club Cup and No No No.
