Is really good. Easily my favorite. I didn’t care for their last two albums, but they sound like they’re back on track.

Yup agreed. Last album was not very good, imo.
This one is solid.

Gonna take a ride and listen to it after work. I like the few songs I've heard so far

Last record had some good songs but this one blows it away tbh. BJ’s best songwriting perhaps ever. Lots of great story telling in songwriter format with songs from lots of other people’s perspectives.

Listening now. Like what I’ve heard so far.
Not sure if AA fans are as sensitive as former Jason Isbell fans. If they are, they’ll be disappointed by some of the social commentary.

I’m in the minority, but I always thought The Bible and the Bottle was their best work. This seems like a more dialed-in version of that sound which works well with his songwriting.
As for the social commentary, Isbell tends to get on his high horse while BJ’s style is more self depreciating, which I appreciate (ironically enough)

BJ is a more respectful of his fans and is a more reflective songwriter. At this point, he may even be a better songwriter.

This is a better record than what isbell will release. And I agree with you that BJ has a way of expressing his views without coming off as preachy like isbell currently does.
He also has a line in the new album that I love:
From “me and mine”.

The difference between JI and BJB from live shows I've seen is that BJB will tell you what he thinks and JI will tell you what he thinks you should think.

Didn't love the last few albums but will give this a listen later tonight.

Really good album.
I always worry about the songwriters that get sober, start a family, and lose that turmoil and heartache that makes them creatively superior.
BJ still holds on to that, even though he's in a good place now, and can still recall the dark days that are his muse.
That's why Ryan Adams' next effort will be great, once society decides he can come back and earn a living.

Damn strong album. Really digging it. It’s up there with Burn Flicker Die. Before the Dogwood blooms is my favorite at the moment but I’m sure that’ll change

Ok after going on a AA binge the past few hours... I feel pretty good in saying BJ has passed up Isbell in songwriting.
I also like how he interacts with his fans on social media. I met him once at the varsity right after burn flicker die was released and he was super nice. He just seems genuinely appreciative of his fans. I don’t give a shite about his political views.
AA might be the most underrated band in the music industry at the moment.

Barham discussing Lamentations
Have listened to the new album a few times. It really is great.
Some tear jerkers in there, for sure. Come September,How Wicked I Was, And Day I learned to Lie seem deeply personal.
He seems to make a point, voice opinions without being preachy.
