Well, it's kind of huge for the varsity to get a band like mutemath

You think I don't have my fingers on the pulse of music today because I don't wear toms and ride a fixie bike like you do
Well you're totally wrong cuz I go to festivals and when everybody's getting a spot for the big bands I go and listen to everybody else then cut up to the front when the big bands play
I'm pretty indie

Jesus. Watch Ween live in Chicago and get back to me.
Music is more than jumping around with a keytar. Songwriting and music composition have a little something to do with it.

Ween's festy sets aren't very good. I've seen them at B'roo and Voodoo. nothing to write home about.
Seeing them headline their own show in a small venue is magic. Ween brings it like no other band I've ever seen. High energy, balls out rock and roll. very sad they aren't together anymore.

As much as I like ween, a lot of their music are joke songs. Talented musicians, but not many people take them seriously. And they aren't even a band anymore.
Before you spout your ignorant bullshite on here (still waiting for the list of 50 bands that are better live than MM) you should actually watch a YouTube clip of them live or listen to some songs off of odd soul. Or even watch them live. They are hands down one of the best live bands playing today. Darren king is one of the best modern day drummers currently flinging sticks.

Agreed. I like that Mutemath song "Karma Chameleon" a bunch though

I mean, it was fun seeing them... But I didn't leave saying "holy shite!" like I did when I saw Damien rice, or the flaming lips.

Ive seen MuteMath 3 times. They play the same set everytime. Its fun, but one time is enough.
Ill make my list when I get home and Ween is pretty fricking high on it.

if you'd have seen Ween in the Varsity Theater you would have walked away with your mind blown. they are on another level.
Never seen Damien Rice. I've seen Flaming Lips enough. Their show is more about theater IMO. They've got a couple of really good albums though.
I think the argument is moot. it's just a different type of music.

Seriously. You gotta see these guys. Great songs performed with a TON of energy by some really talented musicians. Even if you don’t know their music well (and I recommend you get to know it) you would still have fun at this show because they do a great job of entertaining.
Stuff they did includes:
Enter the stage marching-band-style through the crowd under strings of lights
Crowd surf aboard an inflatable mattress lined with blinking colorful lights, while high-fiving, singing and smiling.
Lots of crowd interaction
Lots of unique instruments
Lots of leaping off of items including piano’s, amplifiers, bass drums
Paul, the lead singer, sounded great and sang his heart out. He also did hand-stands on his keyboard and sang a few from within the middle of the standing crowd.
Todd, the new-to-the-band guitarist, was awesome on his instrument and equally impressive carrying a ton of the back-up vocals.
THE HIGHLIGHT FOR ME: The Drummer, Darren King. I’ve never had so much fun watching a drummer. I know that’s a bold claim, considering I’ve seen Neil Pert, Travis Barker and many other fantastic drummers. But this guy crushed it.
When Darren comes out, he puts on headphones and then duct tapes them around his head. It’s his ritual. Why? Because he goes BALLISTIC on his drums throughout the entire show and surely he’d lose the headphones a billion times without securing them to his dome. :

Even if you did see them live, bands typically play similar sets in the course of one year.
This was also right when they were first starting out. Two albums ago.
Weak son!

I've seen wilco live 3 times... Good show, but no where NEAR the show that mutemath puts on with crowd involvement.
I guess we go to shows for different reasons, i go for the music, you want the crowd to be "involved". Different strokes for different folks.
