Not a huge Dylan fan by no means, but this was outstanding. Wouldn't expect anything less from Scorcese.

It Might Get Loud was really interesting, made me wanna pick up one of the guitars every few minutes though. White is by far the most interesting of the 3 in the film.

Possibly my favorite music documentary:
Off the Charts: The Song Poem Story (watch online)

quote:

Off the Charts is a fascinating, hilarious, and at times unsettling film that explores the strange underworld of the song-poem industry. In this little known subculture, "ordinary people" respond to come-on ads in the back pages of magazines ("Send in Your Lyrics—Make $50,000 in Royalties!"), mailing in their heartfelt but often bizarre poems to music industry companies that, for cash, set those poems to music.

What other film tells you the story behind the classic record Blind Man's Penis...

"A Skin Too Few"—documentary on Nick Drake (you can see it on youtube). Among other things, it covers the strange story of a musician who lived and died in obscurity and then, years after his death, became a folk music icon whose music is revered by other artists and new generations of fans.

I enjoyed watching
Foo Fighters: Back and Forth

The last and best line Dave Grohl says
"Honestly had I taken this whole career thing seriously I would have named it something else cuz it's the worst f'ing band name in the world"

Runnin on a Dream—Tom Petty

Enjoyed it a lot. Great stuff about how they fought with the record companies to get their publishing.

Not sure if this counts, but the making of Rumors is fantastic.

One that deserves mention that hasn't been listed yet is I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Wilco).

Ones that have been mentioned that are my favorites are Stones in Exile, Be Here to Love Me (Townes), and Devil and Daniel Johnston.

If you can find it... Deep Blues
It is about the blues guys in North Mississippi, including RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, etc. Follows Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics around the delta.

You're Gonna Miss Me - the story of Rocky Erickson from the 13th Floor Elevators, and his dive into mental collapse. Very interesting, and available on Netflix Streaming.
