I didn't listen to his stuff much because on the heels of Wham he was WAY too uncool for dudes. However, the Prejudice album was a total departure from his pop stuff and holds up over time.

One of the best male voices in the modern era, in my opinion. My wife and I saw him live several years ago and he was pitch perfect with every song he sang.
His version of "Somebody To Love" was the best song of the night during the Freddie Mercury tribute.
I also like how he could breath some fresh air into a classic like "1-2-3".
