Thanks Fret. Even though you’ve crushed my dream of cheapness. I appreciate the input. It’s what I pretty much figured.
I’ve been spoiled twice with used guitar purchases. My Agile LP style has a pair of Slash Seymour Duncan’s someone put in before and my 50s Vibe Tele has a whole re-gut by 920D. Plate, input Jack, angled selector switch, loaded pickguard, and a Wilkinson brass 3 piece saddle/bridge.
I was hoping to continue getting upgrades on the cheap.

cannot help you at your price point, I'm sorry.
Don’t be. Thanks for the input and info, as always.
One day when I have about “tree-fiddy” burning a hole in my pocket I’ll see if you can make me a pickguard. “Drunken Clapton Tone”. You can have the name. The Strat blues man sound from 1976 or so. But a bit sloppy.

Not using Duncan ...
Expect to pay no less than $70 per single coil Strat pickup. Bump that to $100 per pickup if you integrate humbucking or active tech into the pickup(s) blueprint(s).
Add $30 for a Fender-licensed three-ply guard
Add $30 for a CRL or Oak Grigsby five-way blade
Add $24 for three CTS 250K pots
Add $8 for a high quality .022 capacitor
Add $5 for white and black cloth push-back wire
Add at least $30 for the labor to assemble it.
