Mastodon is truly amazing band that gets little pub mainstream wise. ( or maybe they do?)
I listened to Remission today on vinyl it was just mind blowing how good they are.

They've changed a lot since Lifesblood and Remission. Their new stuff is ok. They sell out decent size places so they're fairly well known now.

Mastodon is one of my favorites. Brann Dialor is an amazing drummer, as good as it gets.
If you started out with Remission and liked that then you shall love what the later albums bring. Leviathan was their break threw album and the song Hearts Alive I can still hear in my head from their HOB show in NOLA a few years ago. Blood Moutain contains some of my favorite songs by the band including: Colony of Birchman, Capillarian Crest, and Sleeping Giant.
Crack the Skye is a true masterpiece as for as the genre is concerned.
They have also featured some pretty cool dudes on their albums. Scott Kelly from Neurosis, Cedric from TMV, Josh Homme from QOTSA, Neil Fallon from Clutch.
Metal has seen its heyday, but bands like this prove it isn't all dead.

Love them and Love Progressive Rock/Metal. Crack the Sky is still my favorite. I have not heard all of their latest album though.

I forgot to mention the newest album "the Hunter" Upon first listen I thought they took a step back. I have since had a chance to listen to it heavily and it is as good as anything they have done. Some tracks are just o.k., while others like The Hunter and Drybone Vally RAWK!!

I saw them at Renaissance in Lafayette with about 150 people. It was cool.

I haven't listened to a lot of their stuff, but I really like Oblivion off of the Crack the Skye album.

My favorite current metal band.

Love them. One of my favorites. I've always thought that if they had a better vocalist they would have gone through the roof. They might have scratched that Metallica stratosphere of fame in metal circles.

Everyone sings now. They have three lead vocalists.

I know, I've been on their 'wagon' since the beginning. Some fans/critics say they see that as a problem, that there isn't one strong singer. I kind of like them all, but their isn't one I'd say is a great vocalist.

My favorite song off the last album was ''The Hunter''

''All the love I make is equal to the love I take''.... epic!

This cover of Thin Lizzy's Emerald is awesome as well.

I've never really understood why they weren't more popular. They have some stellar songs

I liked them better when Troy did all the vocals. Brent's a terrible singer.

He really sucked on Crack the Skye. Seems like they toned him back a bit for The Hunter.
