They have been making this particular softer Americana music since 2007 with the addition of Joe Kwon. The two "old" highly regarded albums, Emotionalism (2007) and Mignonette (2004) have half of their songs as slow/ballads. The two Gleam albums are completely ballads. If you meant "It does not sound like I and Love and You I would understand a tiny bit more, but even that title track is a ballad.
So you either meant "If you are looking for really old AB then you will be disappointed." or "If you are looking for "harder" AB then you will be disappointed."
