Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy. Not a big commercial success, but it is a kickass album.
Some great deep Skynyrd cuts on this album...
Cheatin' Woman
On the Hunt
Am I Losing
And two big hits:
Whiskey Rock-A-Roller
Saturday Night Special
What a great band !

On The Hunt and Saturday Night Special are sonic perfection. The production and engineer work are out of this world. Al Kooper is a genius and you can tell he was sorely missed on the next album.

On the Hunt is such a great riff. Not too heavy. Not soft. Just one that hits.

One of the first bands I was seriously committed to back in the late 70’s early 80’s played On The Hunt, Whiskey Rock’n Roller, Needle and the Spoon, I Ain’t The One and Simple Man. We would have played all Skynyrd and Allman Bros music but club owners had to have dance tunes too so we had to oblige.

I always thought LS was a better live band vs. studio band; the live stuff just sounds better.

Their first 4 studio albums were really good.
I never cared for Street Survivors.

You need to go back and listen again. It may be their most complete record

Nah
I'll take anyone of their first four.
Especially Pronounced.

It's certainly their most consistence and was in reality the start of LS 2.0

Love that album. Ed King’s solo in Am I Losin might be my favorite solo out of all the LS songs. Just a simple beautiful riff that is very underrated IMO. I have played that song for friends in the past who sort of LS fans and they’d be like “wow, can you play that one again?”
Whiskey rock a roller is one of the most underrated boogie woogie LS songs IMO. I watched a doc once where Ed said when they were recording that final song before their torture tour Ronnie had a head cold and you can hear it in the first few verses.LOL
Street Survivors is a really good album but it was different from their first 4...more country like but some really innovative stuff that wasn’t being heard at the time ie ‘that smell’ as i heard Warren Haynes one time “you just weren’t hearing that type stuff being played at that time”. My favorite on the SS album is Jacksonville Kid which is an off shoot of Hoky Tonk Night time Man. Crank the shite out of that’ song when it comes on my play list. Would have loved to have heard RVZ singing with the outlaw crew :Waylon, Merle, etc which was his next ambition before the crash....what could’ve been..
