Had a thread on them a long time ago that’s archived and then sort of discussed in the thread about how old do you have to be for concerts, but this has been my favorite band for damned near 20 years and I’m finally going to get to see them for the first time with my son Saturday so I’m super excitedMogwai and wanted to start a dedicated thread
Discovered them on p2p (I think Stanley Kubrick was the first song I heard) and I was hooked. At the time I was maybe 15 and thought all rock songs had to have vocals and be limited to a certain length. Heard Mogwai and discovered there can be beautiful and melodic rock music that’s all instrumental and the songs can be long and expansive and take you on all kind of journeys. I was hooked
Some of my favorites:
Helicon 1
Mogwai Fear Satan
Kids Will Be Skeletons
Small Children in the Background
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong
Tracy
Superheroes of BMX
Rage Man
Cody
As a whole I think Happy Songs For Happy People is my favorite. It’s perfect from start to finish, no part of it I don’t like. Very cinematic too, it was when Mogwai started morphing into really a soundtrack band. 2nd favorite would be EP+2, it’s the first one I heard starting with Stanley Kubrick and I fell in love at the age of 15 with the dark melodic rock while I sat in beds with my headphones on drawing.
Question: have any of you heard them since John Cummings left? How do they sound with only 4 members?

They are good. I enjoy a shite ton of bands in their genre. They always pop up on my Spotify.

I'll be the guy in Chucks with his head bowed rocking back & forth and occasionally throwing his head back.

I thoroughly enjoyed that show.

Agreed. I was worried seeing them live would be a letdown for me but not at all, if anything it just adds to how much I enjoy them.

I don't know any of their song names.
