Learning guitar question - D chord

I'm teaching myself the guitar and right now I'm trying to master switching between the D, A, and E chords as fast as possible. For some reason I just can't get the D chord down. It always sounds flat.
Any constructive advice? Or just keep practicing?

Keep practicing that one chord and variations of it slowly
Go from D to G to A to F to C to E
And different progressions

One of the biggest hurdles in learning guitar is being able to seamless switch from chord to chord. It kinda sucks before you can that.

As for the D chord , since the bass note is the 4th string its just going to sound different. I thought the same thing when I started. Side note, I started off using my pinky for the B string on my Ds. My guitar teacher said hes never seen that before.

As a beginner, you want to learn every basic chord.

Yeah, practice is really all the advice you need. It just takes time.
I guess for those three chords understand that your pointer finger will not come off g string (3rd from bottom). It remains in the 2nd fret for D and A of course, but slides to 1st fret for E. But it never comes off that g string during those transitions.
