Not a big fan of Cajun music. I can take it occasionally in small doses. Stumbled upon this piece the other day. Pretty solid as Cajun music goes, but the fiddle player is outstanding. Can't remember hearing fiddle licks like this in a long time. Anybody know who he is? Thought I heard he's from Church Point. Possibly deceased. Thanks in advance....

quote:I'm not seeing the resemblance to Varnado. I do see references to Chad Cormier in the YouTube comments. Chances are you wouldn't see Varnado playing at the Liberty Theater in Eunice. I just found this: "He was a very talented musician who could play just about any instrument, but he was an especially accomplished fiddle player." LINK

honestly I'm not sure who Joseph Cormier is, or if that's him in your youtube link
I do know that David Varnado has sat in, and played fiddle with Kevin Naquin several times before.
His early influences were Cajun French Music, and he played throughout SW LA since the early 80's.
Varnado grew up playing fiddle for Jo-El Sonnier's Cajun band and played the Liberty numerous times.
Pic below is Varnado playing the Liberty just 4 months ago, April 2017.
He's one of the best fiddler players in the world, and hasn't forgotten his roots

I'm coming up with Louis Dronet.

When in doubt, go to the source. See below...
Chad was special. If the 2 clips in the OP are representative samples of his playing skills, the guy really had a special gift. Glad the mystery is solved.
