Why would it not be someone like Robert Johnson who became so good so fast everyone thought he sold his soul to the devil, or one of the guys that basically invented rock in roll.

RR was phenomenal but I am with the others on you can't name just one due to different genres and styles. Definitely top of his class in his genre of music and super versatile.

I'd put Jimi Hendrix above him. That guy created so much out of thin air.

The problem with putting RR on top is he took what was out there and improved it. He played the LA style faster and with more flash than his counterparts, but in a few years, people improved upon his stuff.

This argument is always subjective, but that is how I've always looked at it.
