A lot of stuff put in the indie folk category didn't really belong there anyway. THATH, for example, started using more synths and the like in their more recent album, and it didn't have much indie folk sound at all, IMO. People will call Father John Misty and Grizzly Bear indie folk, which has no resemblance whatsoever to what most people would think of.

Americana is a much more well defined genre, IMO. To the extent the more folk acts of indie folk are now considered Americana, that should make life easier for people trying to find new music.

Hopefully it'll end frustration from using music services that are essentially "Oh, you like The Low Anthem, try Beach House!"

There are still good folks bands out there. I think they fall more under Americana now tho.

Holy shite, I'd kill to be able to see them. One of my very favorite acts. Her voice is just perfect and his playing is amazing.

I don't know what to call it. 'Roots music'. 'Americana'. All I know is I love it.
