Is Discogs a smart way to buy vinyl?

I recently got into vinyl and am seeing how big of a community Discogs has.
For those who have used it, how reliable is it? Should I worry about them being damaged. Should I stick to a local record store?
Thanks.

I buy all the time from discogs. I haven't had a bad experience yet. I review the vendors reviews before buying.

When I was looking for Christmas gift for someone, I had a guy at a local record store tell me that’s where they got a lot of their stuff, including things that might be special order, and when they needed to clear things out, that’s also where they sold stuff.

I've bought several items from Discogs and never had a bad experience.

I've had nothing but positive experiences. Only issue is people are lazy about positive feedback.

Discogs is great.
The records I've ordered from Discogs have been packaged really well. I'd guess well over half of the records listed are being sold by brick and mortar record stores. Prices are often a bit better than Amazon/eBay/etc

I am still an ebay buyer for my vinyl, but sometimes I can't find what I want so I have started to look at Discogs as they seem to have more options, especially with some rare old vinyl.
