What pop music owes to the classical masters
Talks about Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Liszt, etc, and also Lennon/McCartney. Suck it.

Mozart was a melodic genius. The perfection of the shape of his tunes is what strikes me, his wonderful sense of the rise and fall of a tune and what makes it catch the ear. Those great melodies embed themselves in our heads. This gift for melodies is very rare. I think Mendelssohn, too, a century later, was a composer who had an incredibly easy natural gift and wrote some very nice tunes. In my lifetime? Carole King has written beautiful songs, but only a handful. Richard Rodgers was someone who couldn't not write a decent tune. But if you want the sheer unstoppable flow of Mozart, or Schubert, then you only have Lennon and McCartney.

It's perfectly ok that some of you have an unhealthy contempt for the beatles. Just accept also that you contrarian fricks fall far outside a practically universal critical acclaim and popular opinion
You think that my opinion of the beatles is just an attempt at being contrarian?
Okay, a couple points on that.
1. You don't know me from Adam and so I can't fault you for not knowing that that just isn't my style. But that just isn't my style.
2. I find it interesting that you would come to that conclusion rather than accept the reality that you live in a world where a whole host of people legitimately and sincerely believe that the Beatles are a very famous band that made very average music.
2a. Surely you wouldn't quibble with a statement that there is some subset of bands whose fame is much greater than their music is good.
2b. And if you've accepted that to be true, and therefore agree that there can be such a thing as a discrepancy between fame and quality of music, then you would necessarily have to acknowledge, that out of that subset of discrepancies, one is wider than all the others.
2c. You just wat the Beatles to be the band standing on the gold medal podium in that particular category.
3. Well, sorry man, that's a bummer for you, because the Beatles are tops in that category by a comfortable comfortable margin. Like I'm talking a Secretariat at Belmont type lead over the band with the second place fame-musicquality delta.
And that isn't contarianism because that just wouldn't be my style. But you knew that.

I'm almost completely positive you took my post for exactly the opposite of what I was saying
