Instrument Care Routine

I'm the worst with keeping my guitars maintained. Hell, I barely remember to change strings. I want to put a little more effort into routine maintenance and cleaning, so I bought a cleaning kit. And new strings
So, what's your routine?

Even though I don't play enough for this to be relevant any longer, I was big on changing my own acoustic strings.
For electrics, I "got a guy" to do string change/intonation because ain't nobody got time for that, although I usually bought strings on the internet.

Here's my contribution, fingerboard care. This is from my old blog that I stopped due to a lack of time and a lack of reader feedback.

One word of caution (at least for acoustics) be wary of using polishes containing silicon. They not only build up on the finish but also can make future repairs more difficult. And if adsorbed by unfinished wood (a crack for instance) it then becomes that much harder to work on. Have read many years ago on a Martin forum (umgf.com) that even their brand now contains it. Just rumor, I don't know, but these guys were real serious about it. Plus I've always been cautioned that silicon causes fish-eye swirls when refinishing... paints, fiberglass, molds, and so on.
Personally I use Preservation Polish from StewMac as it's not a wax or silicon.
