I Woke Up This Morning: The Blues Thread

Kafka has been asking so here it is. I'll start this out with what's considered the first blues recording ever made in 1914. Here's the Victor Military Band playing a John C Handy tune:

Blue is a color. They say the blues arose from the cotton fields as call and response chants amongst the slaves. The blues were considered to be the music of the poor black man, but even white men could have the blues. As a wise man once told me "If you don't like the blues, boy, you've got a hole in your soul."
