To me, it just sounds like soft rock. Reminds me a lot of Sting's solo stuff, Coldplay, etc, Matchbox 20, stuff that I don't hate, but would never go out of my way for. It's just kinda...there. It's definitely not bad by any objective measure, but it's the opposite of exciting. It's musical beige.

I think they are really good. I just wish they would cut back on the synths a little.

They peaked a while back with Lost In The Dream and seemed to have kinda stuck with parts of that album for their formula since.
Their releases prior to that are more varied if I remember right. Slave Ambient is the album that made me a fan.

The War on Drugs biggest influences are considered Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits
This could not be more obvious
I enjoyed lost in a dream as well but this boards reaction to it was great lol I rushed to it expecting a undeniable masterpiece. Like I said, it was pretty solid

Drink a couple whiskeys and listen to "Pain" and don't worry that it all sounds similar.

They have become a 1 trick pony. No evolution

Same thing over and over can become boring. That song with Lucius, another band I really like, just sounds so much the same.
